19 декабря, въ день памяти святителя Николая, Мирликійскихъ Чудотворца, Преосвященнѣйшій епископъ Мэйфильдскій Георгій возглавилъ богослуженія въ Св. Николаевскомъ храмѣ по случаю престольнаго праздника. Наканунѣ праздника, прихожане и богомольцы торжественно встрѣтили чудотворную Курскую Коренную икону Божіей Матери и Преосвященнѣйшаго Владыку съ крестнымъ ходомъ передъ началомъ Всенощнаго бдѣнія. Всенощную возглавилъ епископъ Георгій въ сослуженіи настоятеля прот. Сергія и приходского духовенства – іерея Іоны и діакона Леонида. По окончаніи Всенощнаго бдѣнія была отслужена литія объ упокоеніи новопреставленныхъ архіепископа Чикагскаго и Средняго Запада Іова (ПЦА) и архим. Іоасафа (Маклелланъ), отошедшіе ко Господу въ тотже день. Послѣ литіи о. Сергій произнесъ трогательную рѣчь въ память новопреставленныхъ.

На слѣдующее утро, несмотря на то, что снѣжная буря обрушилась на всю епархію, прихожане собрались восхвалить своего Небеснаго Покровителя и отмѣтить свой престольный праздникъ. Послѣ торжественной встрѣчи чудотворной иконы и владыки, начилась Божественная литургія, возглавляемая Преосвященнѣйшимъ епископомъ Георгіемъ въ сослуженіи приходского духовенства, а также іерея Леонида Гофермана и іерея Виталія Лялюкова. По окончаніи литургіи, отецъ Сергій привѣтствовалъ Владыку Георгія, благодаря его за архипастырскій визитъ и преподнеся ему копію Курской Коренной иконы Божіей Матери. Затѣмъ Владыка преподнесъ копію иконы старостѣ Николаю Евгеньевичу Бурбело по случаю его тезоименитства, а маленькія копіи получили алтарники Николай Леонидовичъ Рожковъ и братья Николай и Андрей (день ангела 13 дек.) Георгіевичи Левитскіе. Послѣ службы въ приходскомъ залѣ состоялась праздничная трапеза.

Въ субботу вечеромъ, несмотря на великій снѣгопадъ, маленькая группа вѣрующихъ наполнила Св. Георгіевскій храмъ своей искренней молитвой, встрѣчая Владыку и съ нимъ чудотворную икону Божіей Матери, для которой была приготовлена приходской молодежью, во главѣ съ Екатериной Ивановной Римакисъ, великолѣпная голубая рамка изъ цвѣтовъ. Къ сожалѣнію, отрицательная погода заставила отмѣнить службы въ воскресенье утромъ, но прихожане славили Всевышняго, благодаря Его за то, что имъ была дана возможность приложиться къ иконѣ до Ея отбытія въ южные штаты. On December 19, the feast day of St. Nicholas, Wonderworker of Myra in Lycia, His Grace, Bishop George of Mayfield, led the divine services in Red Bank on the occasion of our parish’s patronal feast day. On Friday, December 18, the eve of the feast, parishioners and other faithful festively greeted the wonder-working Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God and His Grace with a crucession prior to the start of the All-Night Vigil. The Vigil was led by Bishop George, co-served by the rector, Archpriest Serge, and parish clergy – Priest Jonah and Deacon Leonid. Upon completion of the Vigil, a litiy was served for the repose of the newly departed Archbishop Job of Chicago and the Midwest (OCA) and Archimandrite Joasaph (McLellan), who had passed away that same day. After the litiy, Fr. Serge offered a touching word on the half of the departed.

The following morning, despite a snowstorm sacking the whole diocese, parishioners gathered to glorify their Heavenly Intercessor and celebrate their parish feast day. The Divine Liturgy began after the triumphal greeting of the bishop and the icon, and was celebrated by His Grace, co-served by the parish clergy, as well as Priest Leonid Goferman and Priest Vitaly Lialukov. Upon completion of the Liturgy, Fr. Serge greeted His Grace, thanking him for his archpastoral visit and presenting him with a copy of the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God. Bishop George then presented a copy of the icon to the warden, Nicholas E. Burbelo, on the occasion of the latter’s namesday, while smaller icons were presented to altar-servers Nikolai Roschko and brothers Nicholas and Andrew (namesday – Dec. 13) Levitsky. After the service, a festal luncheon was offered in the parish hall.

On Saturday evening, despite the heavy snowfall, a small group of the faithful filled the church with their heartfelt prayer, greeting the bishop and, along with him, the wonder-working icon of the Mother of God, for which a marvelous blue frame of flowers had been made by the parish youth, headed by Katherine Rimakis. Unfortunately, the poor weather necessitated canceling services on Sunday, but the faithful thanked the Almighty for the chance to venerate this holy icon before its departure to the South. Въ пятницу 4 декабря, Православная Церковь празднуетъ двунадесятый праздникъ Введения во храмъ Пресвятой Богородицы. „Въ этотъ день празднуется начало царства благодати, которая входитъ въ мiръ черезъ вхожденiе въ храмъ трехлѣтней богоизбранной Отроковицы“ (Архiеп. On Friday, December 4, the Orthodox Church celebrates the great feast day of the Entry of the Most Holy Theotokos into the Temple. “On this day we celebrate the genesis of the Kingdom of Grace, that grace which enters of the world through the entry into the Temple of the three year-old Child, the elect of God” (Archb. Nikon (Rklitsky), 1973). On this great feast, divine services in St. George's Church were led by the rector, co-served by the parish clergy. Click here for photos.

Въ субботу 21го ноября, по окончаніи Всенощнаго бдѣнія, настоятель въ сослуженіи іерея Іоны и діак. Леонида отслужилъ панихиду по „галлиполійцамъ,“ бѣженцамъ изъ Россіи (около 150 тысячъ лицъ), которые въ 1920 покинули берега своей порабощенной Родины, во главѣ съ Генераломъ Петромъ Врангелемъ. Около 60 тысяч изъ нихъ находили временный покой на турецкихъ берегахъ, на полуостровѣ Галлиполи. Почти три года длилось „галлиполійское сидѣніе“, въ теченіе котораго множесто людей погубло отъ ранъ, болѣзней, холода и голода. Союзъ потомковъ галлиполійцевъ ежегодно чтитъ память своихъ родныхъ и близкихъ, прожившихъ эти тяжелые годы.

На панихиде также поминали новопреставленнаго Святѣшаго Патріарха Сербскаго Павла, почившій въ предыдущее воскресенье. Въ то воскресенье, 15го ноября, когда вѣсть о кончинѣ Его Святѣйшества дошла до нашего храма, за Божественной литургіей помянули почившаго Патріарха. Также поминался и убіенный іерей Даніилъ Сысоевъ, московскій священникъ, разстрѣленный 19го ноября въ собственномъ храмѣ мусульманскимъ экстремистомъ. По словамъ руководителя прессъ-службы Московской патріархіи священника Владиміра Вигилянскаго, лично знавшаго убитаго, „Отецъ Даніилъ былъ яркой фигурой въ московскомъ священствѣ – человѣкъ творческій, активный, истинный проповѣдникъ и миссіонеръ. Думаю, онъ пострадалъ именно изъ-за своей активной позиціи“. Да упокоетъ Господь Богъ души усопшихъ рабъ Своихъ!

On Saturday, November 21st, after completion of the All-Night Vigil, the rector, co-served by Priest Jonah and Deacon Leonid, served a Panihida for the “Gallipolites,” refugees from Russia (numbering about 150,000 souls), who left their newly enslaved homeland in 1920, under the leadership of General Peter Wrangel. Around 60,000 of these found temporary rest on Turkish shores, on the peninsula of Gallipoli. The “Stay in Gallopoli” lasted almost three years, over the course of which many people died from wounds, disease, cold, and hunger. Every year, the members of the Union of the Descendants of the Combatants of Gallopoli honor the memory of their friends and relatives who lived through these trying years.

Also commemorated during the Panihida was the His newly departed Holiness, Patriarch Pavle of Serbia, who reposed the previous Sunday. On that Sunday, November 15th, when news of His Holiness’ passing reached our church, Patriarch Pavle was commemorated during the Divine Liturgy. Commemorated at the Panihida as well was the murdered Fr. Daniel Sysoev, a Moscow priest, who was shot on November 19th in his church by a Muslim extremist. In the words Moscow Patriarchate Media Office spokesman Vladimir Vigilyansky, who knew the deceased personally, “Fr. Daniel was a lively figure in the Moscow priesthood – he was a man of creativity and activity, a true preacher and missionary. I think that he died namely as a result of his active stance.” May the Lord God grant rest unto the souls of His departed servants!
